ICELAND’S SECRET WELLNESS AND WELL-BEING AT SKY LAGOON

Nature and culture have been always our two biggest inspirations in creating our wellness yoga retreat journeys around the world. Since the travel and leisure industry has rebounded after a long pause due to the pandemic, we have now added several new destinations around the globe where you can spend the week with adventurous like-minded people to fill what your soul have been craving for through the journey which is – to reconnect!

Among the amazing destinations that offers authentic landscape, Iceland has been always one of favorite destination by the yogis for outdoor adventure, dramatic landscape, geothermal experience and that magnificent sky display of The Northern Lights.

Located in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic Ocean, makes this Nordic Island country one of the most fertile lands. The interior of the island itself is a combination of sand, mountains and lava fields. Let’s not forget that its geographical setting makes this island surrounded by water. To Icelanders, water is life. And bathing activity can be spiritual and healing at the same time.

To provide this deep rooted-cultural activity while in Iceland to our yogis, we have partnered with Sky Lagoon, the oceanside geothermal lagoon, where the sky meets the sea. Sky lagoon consists of one big infinity hot pool and several others pools for the ultimate geothermal bathing experience. Iceland has been blessed with naturally warm resources of water. They knew and loving it. Geo-thermally-heated water is water that is heated naturally beneath the earth’s surface, high in minerals providing tons of health benefits for the skin from detoxification to skin remedy. As you inhale in a hot pool, the minerals also help to release nasal and lung congestion in powerful ways. What a blessing and healing!

On the spiritual side, this bathing experience is one of the ways where we can reconnect with all the five elements around us: the earth, fire, water, air and ether (space). The same element that built our human body. That is why, geothermal bathing experience can somehow recharge our wellbeing spiritually. Shooting the busy mind and filling the heart with serenity.

Sky Lagoon is just 30 minutes away from downtown Reykjavik, pampering our sense of sight with stunning views that will take your breath away. To name a few of them: The fjord, Summer Sunsets, the mountains, and the wildlife at sea. Sky Lagoon is a perfect definition of get lost in the city!

Coming as a group, we will got to enjoy Icelandic Bathing Culture through their Seven-Step Ritual. It is a traditional bathing ritual for relaxation to promote wellbeing from the inside to the outside by combining the healing powers of warm water, cold water, warm steam, dry heat and fresh air.

Here is how we begin:

STEP 1

Soak into hot geothermal water to opening up.

STEP 2

Stimulate immune system, increase blood flow in the body and tighten skin is the benefit that we get by doing cold therapy. In step 2, either wander in the fresh Icelandic air or challenge yourselves to take a quick dip in the cold plunge.

STEP 3

Balance that body temperature after awakening cold plunge dip by going to Sauna for 5 to 10 minutes. Allow the body to detoxify and does cleansing by itself.

STEP 4

Step out from the sauna and enjoy each step you take mindfully through the cold fog-mist space. Take it all in!

STEP 5

Gently apply Sky Lagoon’s signature body scrub to exfoliate and brighten your skin. This will make you feel glowing from the inside out.

STEP 6

Maximize the skin absorption of minerals and vitamins from the previous steps by one more time opening our skin pores with a blanket of steam

STEP 7

To come out rejuvenated and energized, take a gentle shower from head to toe.

We will have this group activity included in our Iceland: Journey Through Elements Yoga Retreat, October 1 – 7, 2023. As well as to share other Iceland’s culture, stunning nature and glaciers, mountains, waterfall, wildlife, during our weeklong journey.
